Wharfedale DVDRHD400F/DVDR160HDF DVD Recorder with Freeview 80Gb/160Gb HDD. I was considering buying a Wharfedale DVDR24HD160F 160GB HDD DVD Recorder but dont know incase the same problem happens. I had a liteon DVD recorder and before that a Philips and the picture when recording was always clear. A manual would also be nice.

I got one of these a DVDR/HDD combined with one Freeview tuner (an Argos return) at a good price a week ago.
However, I am not surprised many of these have been returned as they are very complex to use, and I bet many people have given up on them in frustration blaming a poor user manual (which I do not agree with myself). What's more the HDD (or is it the DVDR) spins up periodically at random in standby, which I feel must have put some people off too!
It has taken me a week to get the hang of it, but now I have, I am pleased I did as it works well and does what it says on the tin in all respects.
I would be interested to know if anyone can provide any technical information?... For example is Vestel the manufacturer, if so is it perhaps a T806/810/816/ 825? Are there any firmware or software updates available?
Any info would be gratefully received... cheers.
regards,
Arthur.

- #2I wouldn't bet against it being Vestel but it definitely won't be the T810/16/25 series which would be bona fide pvrs in their own right.
You'd be best comparing with plain freeview stb receivers for the tuner section. The recorder section would be a traditional analogue DVD/HDD recorder.

Hello everyone! Computer-less friends have asked me if I can find a solution to the problem they're having with this unit -
Wharfedale DVDR24HD160F (DVD recorder with 160gb HDD)
They were watching a film from the HDD when the screen suddenly went dark grey, with a central vertical black stripe & a wonky white line to the left of the stripe.
I tried changing all the cables, which are - aerial in, back to the TV & scart from unit to TV, with no luck.
The unit will power on ok & show the channel at which it was last left & will allow me to change channels (according to the front display) but nothing shows on the TV except the grey/black/white combo!
They don't have many programmes recorded on the HDD & wouldn't mind losing them, so I was thinking...
...I'm sure I've heard that some recorders have a combination of buttons to press while powering on that will reset the box to 'factory defaults' (?) If that's right, can anyone tell me how to achieve this on this unit?
I'll take any suggestions gratefully (be nice, I'm not that talented! )
With thanks for your time & attention, Stuart
