  1. When it comes time to overhaul the carburetor, you have several options. If your going to attempt to overhaul the carburetor yourself, first obtain a good quality carburetor rebuild kit (which will include all the necessary gaskets, internal parts, instructions and parts list).

    You'll also need some special solvent and a way of blowing out the internal passages of the carburetor with air.

  2. An alternative is to obtain a new or rebuilt carburetor. They are readily available from dealers and auto parts stores.

    Make absolutely sure the exchange carburetor is identical to the original.

    The carburetor model is stamped on the float bowl or on a metal tag (see illustration). It will help determine the exact type of carburetor you have.

    When obtaining a rebuilt carburetor or a rebuild kit, make sure the kit or carburetor matches your application exactly.

    Seemingly insignificant differences can make a large difference in engine performance.
