Emotron VFX 2.0 AC drive optimises the operation of your cranes, crushers, mills and mixers. Your process is protected from damage and downtime and you benefit from reduced installation, energy and maintenance costs. Emotron VFX AC drive is ideal for dynamic applications. Direct torque control, accurate speed control and efficient vector braking offer reliable control of, for example, cranes, crushers and centrifuges. The series covers motor powers of up to 3,000 kW.

Available in both IP54 certified enclosure as well as IP20/21.

Efficient and protective starts and stops

What Is An Ac Drive

Emotron VFX ensures efficient and protective starts. Reduced start currents result in smaller fuses, cables – and energy bills. Torque can be boosted to overcome initial peak loads. Integrated vector braking ensures quick and controlled stops, increasing not only productivity but safety as well.

Optimised operation and full control

The direct torque control reacts extremely quickly to eliminate disturbances due to abrupt load changes. A built-in load monitor and a unique Load Curve Protection function protect your process by immediately detecting any situation that could cause inefficiency or damage. Early warnings and safety stops for over- and underloads allow preventive action.

User-friendly and reliable operation

Operation parameters can be set in your own process units – m/sec, tons/hour, cycles/min etc. – making monitoring easier and more reliable. The removable control panel has a copy function for transferring settings to other Emotron VFX units. You can switch between local and remote control by the push of a button on the control panel. The built- in programmable logical functions, comparators and timers mean that, in many cases, external PLC or relays can be avoided.

Available in IP20/21 and IP54 versions

Emotron VFX is available in IP20/21and IP54 versions. The robust metal construction in IP54 version allows you to install your AC drive close to the application, which saves the cost of cabinets and long motor cables. The 300-3,000 A units (IP20 modules) are also available in compact CG-designed IP54 or IP23 cabinets. IP20/21 series 2.5-293 A are optimised for mounting in control cabinets (IP20) or on electrical room walls (IP21, 25-293A). Emotron VFX has a robust and compact design, with easy access to power terminals and an extended temperature range up to 50/55 °C.

Simplified maintenance

Should a process problem occur, a full status report will be generated. You can quickly identify the cause and take corrective measures. Maintenance is simplified thanks to a minimum of easy accessible mechanical parts and fold-out power modules.

Options

Options add functionality

A number of options let you customise the functionality of the Emotron VFX 2.0 and fully utilise the product according to your needs. Up to four different options can be combined.

Crane control

A crane I/O expansion board offers efficient hoist and travel drive, and a safety system which activates the mechanical brakes should dangerous loads be detected. It also provides a load-dependant, field weakening function for hoist drives.

Shorter braking time

For short braking time or continuous braking, chopper is available as a factory-installed option. It is used in combination with brake resistors and is dimensioned according to the specific application demand.

Communication

Communication options include fieldbus communication via Profibus and DeviceNet, Industrial Ethernet communication via Modbus/TCP, EtherCAT and Profinet, and serial communication via RS232 or RS485 using Modbus RTU protocol.

Motor protection

PTC and PT100 sensors can be connected to a monitor and protect motor temperature and give process feedback without using a transmitter.

Encoder

A HTL or TTL pulse encoder can be connected for more accurate speed control or for increased safety through deviation control in crane applications.

Safe stop

This option board offers protection from unexpected start during mechanical maintenance, in accordance to the standards IEC 62061 SIL2 and ISO 13849. No contactor is required.

Liquid cooling

Units from 90 A can be provided with liquid cooling. This allows you to reduce operating and maintenance costs, and the cabinet can have a protection class higher than IP54.

EMC protection

A 1st environment category C2 EMC filter is available as a factory-mounted option.

Reduced harmonic distortions

A 12-pulse rectifier offers cost-efficient reduction of harmonic current distortions. It reduces power losses in equipment such as transformers and conductors, and eliminates the need to over-dimension these components.

Standby supply

This option makes it possible to supply the control circuits via an external 24 V AC/DC supply to maintain communication and set up the system when 3-phase mains are not connected. It also provides communication backup if 3-phase main power supply fails.

IP21 Top cover

If units are wall mounted in electrical room, a top cover drip protection is available for IP 20 units 11-132 kW.

Dedicated waste water drive

Emotron FlowDrive is designed for use in the most common pumping scenarios (1-2 pumps of any brand) in the wastewater management industry. The heart of FlowDrive is automatic reservoir level control – which optimises energy use, minimises the need for maintenance, and enables real time process monitoring.

Initially available in IP54 and IP20, within the 0.75-160 kW range, the new drive concept is fully tested and proven. Thanks to its coated boards in robust IP54-certified casings, you can rest assured it will withstand the challenges of demanding industrial settings.

Self-learning system

During commissioning, the user configures all motor data and levels. The self-learning program then takes over, taking measurements and calculating process data to enable optimal control. Features include load monitoring, best efficiency point and flow estimation. Best efficiency point (BEP) algorithm

Initially, the drive operates in learn mode in order to establish the most efficient operating parameters for the BEP algorithm. By running the pump over a range of frequencies and measuring the volumes pumped, it defines the most energy-efficient pumping frequency, and calibrates the related functions accordingly. Thereafter, the reservoir level control operates according to these defined values.

No flow sensor required

Once the initial commissioning program has been run, the FlowDrive can estimate in- and outflow – without the need for a costly external flow sensor. If more accurate flow measurements are required, the FlowDrive also supports the use of an external sensor.

Random start level

To prevent residue accumulating at a single level, this feature generates a random start level. The residue spread is thus over a broader surface and major buildups are prevented.

Cleaning functions

Several cleaning functions are built-in to reduce maintenance requirements including pump and pump sump cleaning, and pipe cleaning.
